You got to break in most things. As much as I’d like to say it’s cars I get to test drive often, I’m quite happy wearing in shoes. It’s never really a clunk- and blister-free run with new kicks, though — save for a pair or two, it has never been love on the first walk. For a guy who’s always running from meetings to shoots, to gym then more meetings, comfortable and versatile footwear is a non-negotiable.
Today’s generation of hustlers are constantly on the move, and they need things to keep up with their lifestyle. It’s not the first time things were marketed with these people in mind, but global brand Cole Haan throws their hat — er, shoes — in the ring. Their new line of Generation ZERØGRAND boasts of versatility, advanced cushioning, and hassle-free use, all in one breathable, lightweight pair. With all these promises, there’s only one thing left to do: the ultimate stress test, in this case, a weekend that’s definitely made for walking/trekking/running/ all of the above?
Team no slip
The day after I got my pair, I was in for an overdue vacation. Our flight to Batanes was in Clark, a two-hour car ride away from Manila. A few pit stops were in order so we were on and off the car — it was also 5 a.m. so I was definitely napping my way to the airport. I can’t be the only one who removes shoes in the car (only when I sleep!), so the whole pit stop thing can be a nuisance. As it turns out, the new Generation ZERØGRAND sneakers were a roadtrip’s dream: the laces keeping their place, letting me slip on/off with ease whenever I need to. It’s the little things, y’all.
