Dr. Martens’ new Sex Pistols collection is punk as hell

Never mind the bollocks, get these shoes.

I’m going to start this off by saying that I do not have an expansive vocabulary on punk, nor about the music of the last 100 years and the movements within them. But, even if you’re like me, you still might know a band called the Sex Pistols from a little-known movie called School of Rock. If you still don’t know that, then I think you may be a lost cause. I’m only kidding, of course. But it shouldn’t be a surprise that Dr. Martens recently released a collection featuring the iconic band. It only makes sense: both are iconoclasts that reach beyond their core audience.

For this special collection, Dr. Martens drew inspiration from the imagery that the equally influential artist Jamie Reid made for the Pistols. The classic 1460 8-eye boots we all lusted after in high school (even until today, let’s be real) are now emblazoned with lyrics and imagery from the iconic band. The collection also includes the 1490 10-eye boot and the 1925 steel toe.

Dr. Martens’ classic styles get a punk makeover with a new Sex Pistols collection.

The collection consists of four styles: first is the 8-eye 1460 Sex Pistols Vicious boot, which features a digitized print of the band’s infamous bass player, Sid Vicious. Next is the 1460 Sex Pistols No Future, and the 1490 Sex Pistols, which are both printed with song lyrics. Last, and most certainly not least, is the 1925 Sex Pistols, a punchy take on the classic 3-eye shoe. It features a cutout at the toe, which reveals a steel toecap. What’s more is that it features mismatched logos, with one foot reading “boredom,” and the other “nowhere.” I guess it’s time to read up and listen to some classic punk to gain the street cred to rock these, amirite?

The Sex Pistols collection is available in a limited quantity at Dr. Martens stores in Glorietta, SM Megamall, SM North Edsa The Block, Marquee Mall, Nuvali Solenad 2, SM City Cebu, and Abreeza Davao. For more information, visit facebook.com/DrMartensPH
