Events that will convince you to go out during mercury retrograde

A Super Smash Bros tournament, a neighborhood dinner party, a homegrown brand pop-up, and more this July.

It’s time to stop hiding from all the things that can probably go wrong during mercury retrograde.   Whether or not you believe in the stars, here are some events to fill your calendar for the rest of July. 

 

On Labor and Emancipation (July 13)

Non-profit collective Women Reply is holding a screening of Jun Robles Lana’s Mga Kuwentong Barbero (2013) in partnership with GIG from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on June 13. Set during the end of the Martial Law era, the film follows Marilou, a newly widowed woman who takes over the town barbershop after her husband’s sudden passing. Donna Miranda of SAKA will kick off the discussion with a short presentation, and a discussion on claiming ownership of our identity and our womanhood will follow the screening.

Nook Super Smash Bros Tournament (July 13)

If you’ve been itching to flex your Smash skills, this is your chance. Friendly neighborhood co-working space Nook is hosting a Super Smash Bros tournament on July 13. Admission gets you a free glass of Jesus Juice and access to 10 classic arcade games and the chance to participate in on-going board game sessions. Don’t forget to bring your own Switch if your main is a DLC!

Branding + You: A workshop on brand identity design (July 20)

Budding designers, take note. Multimedia director and graphic designer Dempson Mayuga will be conducting a workshop on Brand Identity Design, complete with hands-on basic Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign tutorials from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on July 20. Beginners are welcome.

Breaking Bread: Dinner Party Nº1 (July 20)

In collaboration with Bao Bar Poblacion, Dulo Poblacion is holding Breaking Bread, a neighborhood dinner party and food & art community gathering. All dishes will be served family style, “to foster a culture of sharing—from playful riposte to social discussions, collaborative exchanges, and that mountain of coconut turmeric rice.” Admission also gets you a free cocktail, while specialty cocktails crafted by guest bartender Kiara Athena Opeda will be available for purchase throughout the night.

Aura sa Artesania (July 25)

Lifestyle brand Strange Mercy is partnering with Artesania Furniture for a one-day pop-up featuring other homegrown labels. Munch on Caffeined’s new offerings while browsing through vintage accessories, clothes, and shoes from brands like Souvenir, Glorious Dias, Wiji Lacsamana, Renegade Folk, Saan Saan, andFrom Blank.
