Many young creatives regularly emerge from every corner of the internet, especially from the field of design. Nowadays, we see plenty of these young Filipino creatives and entrepreneurs putting themselves out there by making products on their own terms. This is good because as consumers, we get more options, and it’s all for the better since these are locally made. Bench is on the lookout for these creatives too, as they are a brand known for cultivating homegrown talents.
With its vision of establishing Philippine fashion on the map, the brand created the Bench Design Awards, which aims to feature undiscovered talents in the local fashion industry. Now on its third year, they brand is once again calling all aspiring designers to sign up and be recognized.
So what’s in it for the winners? The prizes are the same as the previous years: it’s an opportunity to have a platform for designers to showcase their work. The Top 10 finalists get to show their collections at this year’s Bench Fashion Week, while the Top 3 are sent to Japan to present their winning collections at the renowned Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo.
Winners will be in good company, too. For a quick recall, first-year winners of the Bench Design Awards include RJ Santos (Randolf), Jenni Contreras (Problem Studios) and Jaggy Glarino. Christian Edward Dalogaog (Ched Studio), Sherwin “Otto” Sacramento (Ottomondi), and Renz Reyes were the winners for Year 2. If you wanna be a part of this hall of fame, better get to it quick because the deadline for entries is June 15, 2019. Young designers, let your work be known.
