Discounting even our well-proven affinity for basketball, Filipinos have accomplished great things in the world of sports. Take for example, swimmer Teófilo Ydelfonos, the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to win an Olympic Medal. Or weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, who became the first Filipino woman to win an Olympic medal, bringing home silver in the summer of 2016. We have an under-appreciated but otherwise rich history of athleticism, so shouldn’t something be done to build this, to nourish the passion of aspiring athletes?
One new space aims to do just this. The Vermosa Sports Hub has set itself up to be the new go-to destination for triathletes, sports enthusiasts, and fitness junkies. Located in Cavite, it’s the fourth largest mixed-used estate of Ayala Land Inc., laid out at a vast 700-hectares.
What makes this sports hub so impressive though are its facilities. Check it: an Olympic-size swimming pool (50×25 meters), a football field, a bike trail, and the country’s first nine-line track oval, built according to the standards of the International Association of Athletic Federations. Top that off with the top-notch facility that is the Sante Fitness Lab, a sports science laboratory that aims to help athletes in terms of strength, conditioning, nutrition and rehabilitation. During the launch of the hub, we watched the La Salle Zobel swim team do butterflies in the pool, and other seasoned athletes perform mock relays on the grounds. That’s some picturesque, cinematic, Rocky realness. This is the place to go to if you really wanna get a good workout burn going in your body.
What you’re getting out of Vermosa Sports Hub are top-notch facilities and high quality amenities, the likes of which you’d be hard-pressed to find at your nearest gym or covered court. Frankly, yes, it’s a pretty far trip to make, and making it a part of your workout regimen honestly only makes sense if you actually live in the south. But trust us when we say that it’s worth experiencing at least once, to see and experience a space specifically designed for you to test the limits of your body and spirit.
Make no mistake though: this isn’t just a place for serious athletes. If you’re interested in health and fitness and want a change of scenery, the Vermosa Sports Hub is a pretty good place to start! Still, having seen Ayala pull out all the stops for this one, you can’t help but imagine the country’s future athletes getting their running start here.
