How to survive a 10-hour gig

Imagine standing for hours, dancing and singing, plus the elation that comes with seeing your favorite bands. That’s the true test of endurance. Forget about push-ups and circuit training. This is much more than that. I’m talking about a gig.

I’m not kidding. Jumping around and singing your heart out for over 10 hours is no small feat. Your adrenaline might help you push through, but you still gotta be ready for the big day. Here’s how you can mentally and logistically prepare for Linya-Linya Land a show featuring acts like Up Dharma Down, Cheats, Itchyworms and Munimuni and will therefore definitely test your stamina and have as much fun as you possibly can.

Bring a friend
Going to gigs alone may be something that you enjoy (I do too!), but it’s always nice to have a friend there with you. You get to dance and sing all night long with someone, and you guys can even challenge each other, and find out who’ll succumb to leg pains first.

Charge your phone and bring a power bank
Whether you want to capture all the fun moments, share them on social media, or just need to call a ride home, your phone is definitely necessary for music events. Maybe you can even snap a photo with your fave artist.

Know all the bands in the lineup beforehand
There’s no shame in admitting that you don’t know all the bands who will be performing. There are so many up-and-coming artists out there and it’s really hard to keep up. So if you want to truly enjoy the experience, look them up beforehand and listen to their songs. Step it up by trying to memorize the lyrics so you can sing with them during their performance.

Wear comfortable clothes
For the love of God, this is not a red carpet event. Put those high heels back in the closet and just put on your trusty sneakers. Your feet will thank you later.

Linya-Linya Land takes place on Feb. 23 at Century City Mall in Makati. Show starts at 2 p.m., and doors open at 1 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are priced at P650 and walk-ins can also buy tickets at the door for P750. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
