One of the best things about the holidays is the music. You can deny all you want, but everyone has that one Christmas song that hits them right in the holiday feels. And being in the Philippines, where the season starts as early as September, it’s everywhere: rum-pa-pum-pums from carolers, in shopping malls, in lobbies and elevators.

If you’re on the lookout for new Christmas songs, look no further as our American Idol fave David Archuleta, who just released a new Christmas album called “Winter in the Air”. We asked David about his favorite tracks — songs you’ll get to hear at his holiday benefit concert tonight, Nov. 16, at the New Frontier Theater (formerly known as Kia Theater).

Christmas Every Day

“This is my first single from the album. I wanted to push myself cause I usually don’t sing happy, bouncy songs. I usually write more serious things. I wanted to write a classic Christmas song but I didn’t think I could do it. The melody for this one, I had to push myself: I’m gonna write a Christmas song, what would be a good melody? I was very happy how it turned out. It’s just kind of about what makes Christmas fun and happy.”

He Is Born

“I wanted a spiritual song so I wrote this one. I live in Nashville, Tennessee now and I wanted to give it this kind of Nashville, old Christian song vibe. Just to give my testimony of Christ and of his birth. So it’s very special. This is actually my favorite song from the album.”

Winter In The Air

“I wanted to write a song about winter. Not necessarily about Christmas, but just describing a winter wonderland to people. Like feeling the cold, crisp, dry air that you feel. And this quietness. When it snows, it’s quiet and it’s a beautiful moment. So I wanted to capture that in a song, and I feel like we were able to do that.”

David Archuleta and Friends (BK, Mikee Misalucha, and Anton Antenorcruz) is a holiday benefit concert for Mabuhay Deseret Foundation, Philippines’ largest surgical foundation. Tickets are available
