Last month, we launched The Youth is On Fire, a collaborative zine between you (our readers) and Young STAR. Our first issue’s theme was Spark, where we called upon you guys to submit anything related to energy, fire, connection, ideas, and a beginning of possibilities.
We asked, and you delivered by sending over an overwhelming amount of work that included poems, essays, art, and photos. It was a delight to be able to go through all of those submissions with a range of subjects that proved just how many different interpretations we can all have — from discovering a love for makeup and joining Instameets to joining revolutions and learning to love the color yellow.
While we still can’t get over Spark, it’s time to move forward with our next issue. In keeping with the New Year, our next theme is Blank Space. As you probably picked up, the theme is all about decrypting the classic Taylor Swift song (just kidding). But really, it’s all about creative work that covers both the positive and the negative; of fresh starts and clean slates, of moving on and finding peace beyond the noise, of solitude and loneliness. Of course, this also covers everything in between. Think: keywords like newness, minimalism, moving on, and emptiness. We’re excited to see your interpretations in the form of poems, essays, photos, art, and whatever else you may dabble in.
Submit your work to [email protected] by January 15 for a chance to be part of the next issue. Make sure to follow the guidelines below before sending anything in. Since we are a small team, we will only be accepting work that follows the correct guidelines. Good luck!
