YS Sunday Self-care Package: Night Sky with Exit Wounds, Dear Zindagi, and a few beauty bits

We don’t know about you but Sunday is our favorite day of the week — next to Friday, that is. It’s the perfect time to wind down or create some brainspace for the following week. Whether it be through bullet journaling, multi-masking or diving into a new read, we deserve some self-lovin’ once in a while.

Clarifying Witch Hazel Facial Mist by Beauty Bakery

What it is

This local witch hazel facial spray can soothe and refresh your skin in an instant. I’ve been using this for about a month now and it helped me tone down the redness and oiliness of my skin with every spray. Aside from that, I also use it to set my make up. Good bye, oil and cakey make up! P.S. It smells great and it’s only P265!

What we learned

“Oiliness is next to joblessness,” Take it from Tita Kris so spray away.

Night Sky with Exit Wounds

What is it

Ocean Vuong is a poet born in Saigon, Vietnam and based in New York City. Night Sky with Exit Wounds is his first poetry collection. Now, let it be made clear — this book isn’t a pleasant read. Vuong’s subject position as both a gay man and a son to immigrant parents means he is intimately familiar with the heritage of loss and violence he inescapably carries, and that is all too clear in his poetry. But here is a writer who, despite the condition of being alienated in white America, and the lingering memory of the Vietnam War, uses language to understand himself and the conditions that form who he is, and live an emotionally fulfilling life in the process. There is pleasure there, seeing that journey take place from the first page to the last.

What we learned

To love one’s self is a challenge. Language can sometimes make that easier.

L’Oreal Paris Pure Clay Mask

What it is

L’Oreal Paris finally launched their range of clay masks for our weekly R&R needs. It comes in three variants suitable for every skin types’ needs: illuminating, anti-pores, and hydrating. The range works like your regular mask — put it on, leave it for five to ten minutes, get your Terrace House on, wash it off, etc. — but it can be used to target certain areas. Maybe do a bit of illuminating mask on your cheeks, anti-pores around your nose, and hydrating on your forehead. Do whatever you like, kween.

What we learned

Multimasking is a way of life.

Where to get it

Major supermarkets nationwide.

Dear Zindagi (2016)

What it is

Starring the JLC of Bollywood (at least in my opinion) Shah Rukh Khan, and Alia Bhatt, Dear Zindagi is a Hindi movie about a quirky psychologist meeting an aspiring cinematographer that can rival Girlboss’ Sophia Amoruso’s chaos. The three-hour movie (yep, you read that right) offers a fresh perspective on life and love, with some pretty cool production design to boot. To those who are struggling with life’s madness or questionable career choices, this one is for you.

What we learned

“We think that to achieve something in life, we should tread the most difficult path, and that we should punish ourselves. But why don’t we choose the easy road which leads to the goal? Why do we look over the easy path, which is the easiest?”
