Where to go to make this year’s best yuletide memories

Where to go to make this year’s best yuletide memories

From classic light shows to interactive water displays, we’re all ready to spread some holiday cheer.

There’s no denying the holidays are here: The mall decors are up and running, hams are back on the shelves, and Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You is on repeat and on full blast. From the endless carols (which started playing come September) to sales left and right, it’s pretty clear that we love our Christmas. And while the season is best celebrated at home, heading out can be just as good if you’re not one to decorate your house this season. There’s no shame in not having a tree up, or even a sock hanging by the window (Just in case Santa comes! ), and with the whole metro surrounded by twinkling lights and Christmas carols, you’ll never really miss out on all the Christmas cheer.

So from our family — er, team — to yours, we present the city’s map to this year’s Noel festivities, guaranteed to show off the season’s best and bring the holiday cheer. There’s an added bonus, too: the chance of seeing your long-lost ninong in these places, so yes, you’re welcome.

Get that Christmas music video moment by driving by the yearly Ortigas East Musical Christmas Tunnel (1), from 6-10 p.m. along Frontera Drive in Pasig. It’s rows and rows of Christmas lights synced to the best songs of the season — what’s not to like? From lights to night markets, check out what Ortigas & Company has to offer this holiday season at facebook.com/OrtigasEastOfficial.

Tiendesitas’ Gift of Wonders (2) installations will be your next IG shoot’s location. Take a photo inside their lights-meets-infinity mirrors room, or in their animal-themed one, complete with animated projections and stuffed toys. They’re literally inside these giant gift boxes at the Tiendesitas Food and Pet Village — you can’t miss ‘em.

Nothing can truly replace the OG Greenhills Christmas display, but here’s to keeping up with the times. The Greenhills Laser Light Symphony (3)  is a one-of-a-kind laser show, and a highlight of the establishment’s Futuristic Wonderland-themed holiday campaign. Check it out starting 6 p.m. at the G-Strip Parking area. The show runs every 30 minutes until 10 p.m., so you definitely have the time to hit the GH stalls, or the other Christmas ganaps. Check out @greenhillsph on Instagram to know more.

Real talk: you can’t say holidays and not think of draaaanks. So if you love your booze as much as the season of yore, the Jack Daniel’s Holiday Barrel Tree (4) is your pop-up bar Christmas miracle. Enjoy your Christmas miracles, and special JD holiday cocktails and more (I hear there’s whiskey and yakitori pairings!), at the Jack Daniel’s Bar No. 7 at the C1 Park in Bonifacio High Street, BGC.

All these Christmas lights and carols really do bring out the kid in us. What better way to embrace that childlike, yuletide wonder with some good ‘ol fairytales? Standing tall at 55 feet is BGC’s fairytale-themed Christmas tree (5) — find it at 7th Avenue, Bonifacio High Street, BGC. Check out all the BGC holiday events at facebook.com/ BoniHighStreet.

The cultural (and for those who brought dates there, emotional) impact of the Ayala Triangle Christmas lights is unparalleled. Since its debut 11 years ago, the lights show continues to draw throngs of spectators, each show filling the park to the brim. This year’s show brings something new to the mix: a video-mapped projection splashed across the Ayala Tower One and Exchange Plaza ceiling. Catch this year’s Gallery of Lights (6) every 30 minutes starting 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., at the Ayala Triangle Gardens, Makati.

So you made a list and you checked it twice — what’s next? Circuit Makati’s Holiday Night Market (7) is the next thing to do. Makati’s biggest outdoor bazaar, this holiday night market covers all your pamasko needs, from local crafts to must-haves in the kitchen. This night market is also home to food stalls, so you can get that well-deserved break after all the shopping. Check it out at the Globe Circuit Event Grounds, Circuit Makati.

Now here’s a worthy holiday road trip stop. Running every Friday to Sunday in 30-minute intervals from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. is the all-new Nuvali teamLab Water: Interactive Water Show (8), a showcase of projections on larger-than-life waterscreen displays at the Globe Lakeside, Nuvali. This is world-renowned art collective teamLab’s first-ever digital art exhibition in the Philippines, the Nuvali water show joining their roster of projects like teamLabs’ “Borderless in Tokyo” and “Future World” in Singapore. Download the teamLab Water Show app to unlock the interactive part of the show!
