In the two years that we’ve been throwing #YSProm, we’ve always been sure to serve up some serious #FOMO realness. As they say, there’s no party like a Young STAR party. Yesterday, we celebrated Young STAR’s transition out of its teen years by traveling back in time to the decade where it all started: the ‘90s.

As the decidedly mature people we are, we threw a ‘90s kiddie party complete with classic party games, awesome performances from our ‘90s faves (Kitchie Nadal will always have our hearts), and those coveted sugar flowers on a dedication cake (thanks, Ninang Sonja). Guests came out in a mix of their most bibo and Sunday’s best outfits.

All of this shows that we may be growing up, but we aren’t getting down. Thank you for coming and celebrating with us, fellow #foreverbagets!

Best idea ever: Inflatable pools as mini lounges
Ball is life: Hoodwink’s Mano Gonzales chills out at the ball pit
On the spot: Theater actor Luigi Quesada and musician BP Valenzuela
Nielli Martinez, Andrea Ang, and Lorenz Namalata
Young visionaries: Tommy Tomelden, Kara Chung, Rob Cham, and Trisha O’Bannon

7:00 pm: The Link rooftop is abuzz with activity. 8Cuts is firing up their grill (the smell of burgers goes well with the overall theme), all the candy’s laid out on the tables and the team is almost done filling the ball pit and inflating the bouncy castle.

8:22 pm: Guests are arriving dressed in their kid’s best! Spotted: frilly dresses, suspenders, and knee-high socks. Also, someone just walked in with a black toy poodle???

New kids on the roof: the Benchsetters: Angel Manzano, Kahlea Belonia, Emil Khodaverdi, Neil Dy, and Matthew Custodio

8:25 pm: There’s a line forming by the entrance, but not because registration’s holding up. Must be the neon #YSProm sign and the decor by Serious Studio that’s  getting the attention. Inside the venue, everyone’s mingling and passing the time before the program at the different booths.

Scream Queen chic: Bea Marin
Men (and woman) in Black: James Go, Proudrace’s Pat Bondoc and Rik Rasos, and Mafia Escasinas
You can’t have no beef when 8Cuts Burger is around
Gelato overload thanks to Manila Creamery
Ain’t a bagets party without a classic birthday cake made by Cupcakes by Sonja
Pinball of fortune: Guests tried their luck at the Wanderland booth
Stubbornly refreshing: Ice-cold Smirnoff Mule for everyone

8:36 pm: The line at 8Cuts is even longer—but then again, who doesn’t want free burgers and fried chicken? The sweet tooths headed over to Manila Creamery’s booth to get their sugar fix with the night’s special Young Star flavor—peanut butter gelato with nips & curly tops.

8:51 pm: Everyone’s either lounging in the ball pits (there was even an impromptu ball pit fight!), taking advantage for photo ops with our YS bagets anniversary wall and festive Combi.

Dazed and confused: #YSProm Queen, Janine Gutierrez.
Nineties kid: Photographer BJ Pascual
Bagets besties: Sam Concepcion and Kiana Valenciano

Fashion savvy: Illustrator Soleil Ignacio, and designer Esme Palaganas

9:02 pm: Host Jaz Reyes starts off the program with a kiddie party mainstay, “longest breath.” By saying Happy birthday Young Staaaaaaar, Soleil Ignacio (34 seconds) and Mark Marin (31 seconds) won Swatch watches.

9:20 pm: Cheats kicks off the program with their high-powered version of School of Rock’s It’s a Long Way to the Top. They’re killing it with the “ooh la la las!”

A #YSProm band favorite: Cheats
Just keep smiling: Maureen Manuel, Shaira Luna, JM Villanueva, and Anz Hizon
Star power: Bj Pascual, Ethan David, Janine Gutierrez, Omar Emita, Samantha Lee, Ziggy Savella, Mj Benitez, David Milan, and Raymond Ang

9:45 pm: Everyone starts furiously popping the Young Star balloons after Jaz announces that Hoodwink has hidden gift certificates inside them.

9:50 pm: And we’re now officially launching youngstar.ph. To quote Rory Gilmore, we can’t believe that we’re formally on the blogosphere (or the internet in general)!

10:00 pm: Jaz just started an ‘ol fashioned game of “Bring Me” by asking for a good morning towel! Everyone gasps as Proudrace’s Rik Rasos comes up to the stage, proudly showing off the bimpo hanging out of the back of his shirt. The Bring Me winners won Power Mac Center GCs.

10:30 pm: Surprise, surprise! Kitchie Nadal is finally revealed as our main performer. Spotted: people running to the stage area and mouthing the words to Wag na Wag Mong Sasabihin. Talk about serious high school feels.

Standing stranded (singing) on the same ground as Wanderland Music Festival brought Kitchie Nadal to #YSProm to serenade us back to the good ol’ days.

11:56 pm: Getting on with the performances, we have Wanderband finalist, Manila Magic looking cool in their #YSProm getup. A measure of their cool factor: one member is wearing sunnies at midnight.

12:01 am: Saab Magalona-Bacarro and the rest of Cheats dance to tunes by St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Jim Bacarro, at one point, even started playing the drums.

Too cool for you: Manila Magic pumping up the crowd
Thursday night rager: A weeknight never looked this good
The youth is on fire: Young STAR’s Marga Buenaventura, Coco Maceren, Neal Corpus, Maine Manalansan, Belle Toledo, Tin Sartorio, Ina Jacobe, and Gaby Gloria

12:35 pm: The crew is packing up what’s left of the night and checking Instagram to catch up with the night’s festivities. The Makati sky loomed over The Link. Being 20 has never felt this good.

Many thanks to our ninong and ninangs: Swatch, National Book Store, Wanderland, 8 Cuts, Human, Smirnoff Mule, Manila Creamery, Power Mac Center, Cupcakes by Sonja, Hoodwink and Serious Studio.
